Hair, Braids, and Chlorine: Learning to Swim

After a million years on earth and after being scared of drowning in a pool or a body of water, and after..., I have decided to learn how to swim. I am now taking swimming lessons. I am no fish in the water yet, my presence trying to swim is not a pretty picture, but because of swimming and challenges with my hair, I have decided to braid my hair. The chlorine is just harsh on my natural hair. It sucks all the moisture from it. By the end of my swimming lessons my hair is a frizzy mess. I've decided to tame my hair with braids done by my own hands. I can style it however I want and I can wash it and moisturize just the way it is. Here are some pictures taken by my partner.

  3. Love it! Chlorine is harsh on hair and it takes a long time for it to get back to normal. Good for you for learning how to swim.

  6. I should learn how to swim. I keep saying I want to try to complete (not compete, mind you) a mini tri, but I'd have to learn to swim, or I'd drown. I admire what you're doing. And you rock those braids. You are gorgeous.

  9. You have such a carefree, adorable, and beautiful summer look in these pics. I hope your feelings are matching.

At my age, I am still considering more lessons so that when I am old, I can swim as exercise as many 80 year olds still do. I swim, but the distance is minimal-very! And, I can't tread! I hate that I can't tread water. Fortunately, I'm a master at floating on my back. Maybe that will save me if I fall overboard. :)

I'm impressed that you braided your own hair. That's a lot of braids. Maybe that's why your arms look so good, as Susie said. :)

    Happy Swimming. Stick with it!
